Golf Sat-Nav Update

Checking the version:

Use the Infotainment MENU button to check what your current version is. On your display, tap the Setup option and select System information.

Compare the data given under Navigation database with the data listed on VWs website to see whether a new version is available.

While that is going on you can start preparing your SD card ... after you have found it - probably in the glovebox.

Backing up map material:

It is recommended that you make a backup copy of the existing map material. To do so, proceed as follows:

Preparing the SD-CDA card:

The formatting process depends on your operating system. With a Windows operating system, you need to access the SD card drive and right-click on Format. The manufacturer will provide information for other operating systems. VW recommend that you have a cluster of 4,096 bytes for formatting.

Double-click the downloaded zipped file to open it, and select Extract. In the next window select the drive letter of the SD card slot in which the SD-CDA card is inserted onto which the map material is to be unzipped. Alternatively the map material can be unzipped onto your computer e.g. into another new folder such as NewMap, and then copied onto the SD-CDA card.

Once the material has been successfully unzipped and copied, log out of the SD-CDA card before you remove it (safely remove hardware and eject the medium) to ensure the complete file has been saved to the card. Remove the SD-CDA card from the computer. Now push the switch on your SD card downwards to Lock.

Installing the map material:

However having done that the version info came up exactly the same as before. I tried setting a destination and it calculated the route, but I need to drive via somewhere that I know changed before the date given for the new version to see if it has picked it up.
