September 20th - Southport Airshow

"On the beach ... ", Wonderful Life (Cliff Richard) or post nuclear apocalypse (Neville Shute) as you will. Even avoiding the mud the sand was very sticky and built up a layer of an inch or so on the bottom of our shoes. Scraped off as best we could each time before getting back in the car, but Vee needed a good vacuuming out and hosing down underneath on our return.

Duxford Catalina

Brilliant as ever Red Arrows

Hanger 11 Hurribomber

RN Merlin, a big beast, but rather too many helicopters as there were also to displays by Pumas

Jet Provost, display cut short after getting bit too close to the crowd in the poor visibility

An excellent display from the Tornado, in the gloom you could clearly see the 'dancing diamonds' of the jet exhaust

Mustang also from the Hanger 11 collection. Same pilot as the Hurribomber, having flown back to North Weald in Essex to change planes. An unexpected series of loud explosions simulating cannon firing and bombing a beach target made us all jump.

And finally (for us) the long awaited highlight of the show.
