The Advance of the GP Single Seater, 1960 - 1970

1964 Lotus-Climax 33. For me this era is the best of F1 - purity and simplicity of design, and so much more up to the skill of the driver. Built for Jim Clark, this car was raced by Jackie Stewart before Clark took over and won the South African GP. Bought from Lotus by the present owner in the 60s:

1967 Lotus-Cosworth 49. Pioneered the use of the Cosworth DFV, descendants of which are still used today in F1. Graham Hill and Jochen Rindt drove 49's to their Championship wins in 1968 and 1970 respectively, Damon Hill drove it on the wet Sunday morning. He said that after his era of F1 cars it all seemed very scary and exposed:

1967 Honda RA300. Nicknamed the 'Hondola' as it was based loosely on a Lola chassis design, it was Honda's 2nd GP car, but won Monza in that year in the hands of John Surtees, by a yard over Jack Brabham. Would that today's F1 offered such close racing:

1968 Matra-Cosworth MS10. This car was driven to victory by Jackie Stewart in the 1968 Dutch, German and USA GPs, also the South African in 1969 - the year he won his first world title:
